The Powerful Relationship Realization That Saved Pink's Marriage To Carey Heart

It’s been a rollercoaster, but Pink and husband Carey Hart have celebrated 15 years of marriage. Their love story provides lessons that can benefit anyone.

Expect adversity

Pink (Born Alicia Moore) and Hart's union has been a crazy ride that many would have long bailed on.

From Pink's bloody tire-slashing fiasco to an 11-month separation and a looming divorce, they've been through the wringer and back. Oh, and throw in kids and crazy work schedules that leave little time for the couple to smooth things out.

"Carey would see me for five days and be gone for six weeks. We’d try to fix everything in those five days — you just can’t do that," Pink told Redbook.

The pressures of being a wife and mother came to a head recently, when Pink and her son Jameson both contracted COVID-19. A "terrifying" ordeal, the pop star called it "the most physically and emotionally challenging experience I have gone through as a mother."

While it's been rough at times, Pink has grown to appreciate that marriage isn't all rainbows and unicorns.

"Marriage is awful, wonderful, comfort and rage. It is boring, terrifying, and a total nail biter"

Pink

Marriage, like life, brings all kinds of challenges and adversity. Pink learned that you can't enjoy the rainbow without the rain, and love is no exception.

Work on yourself

When the going gets tough, most couples resort to finger-pointing and trying to "fix" each other. "Fixing a spouse is a euphemism for 'be reasonable and do it my way," says marriage counselor Alisa Ruby-Bash.

The outcome is usually resentment, anger, or — as Pink and Hart almost discovered — divorce.

However, as the saying goes, 'When you point one finger, there are three fingers pointing back to you.'

After realizing that she'd "spent six years trying to change someone else," Pink had to take a hard look in the mirror. It was eye-opening.

"I think that that was a great distraction for me to not really have to look at myself and see what I had to change in me… it was very humbling for me. I'm not perfect"

Pink

The pop star praises therapist Vanessa Inn with helping both her and Hart be their best selves for each other. Ultimately, she says "it’s the only reason that we’re still together."

Experience has taught Pink that marriage is all about "loving another fallible creature while trying to love yourself." You can only bring your best when you are your best.

Anyone worth loving is worth fighting for

"15 years. Proud of us babe. See, sometimes being stubborn pays off"

Pink

They were on the brink of "calling it quits", according to People. As it was a first marriage for both of them, Pink and Carey Hart could have chalked it up to a learning experience and moved on.

But they didn't.

Instead, Pink still sees in Hart the motocross star she fell in love with and proposed to at one of his races 15 years ago.

Instead, Hart still sees in Pink his...everything.

"There is no other woman that I would want to go through this crazy world with than you. Thanks for being a great friend, wife, mother, and person"

Carey Hart

They worked through the struggles, worked on themselves, never gave up on each other and are stronger for it. As COVID-19 tests marriages more than ever, it's a story that can give everyone hope.

Mother's Day is celebrated with flowers, heartfelt cards, and family gatherings. It's a day dedicated to honoring the women who raised us, yet for many, it's a day filled with mixed emotions.

The bond between a mother and child is often seen as sacred, but not everyone has that idyllic relationship with their mom. If you find Mother's Day challenging, you're not alone.
