Quick-Thinking McDonald's Employees Rescue Woman From Gun-Toting Abuser

One woman is safe from danger thanks to some improvising and a few fast-acting restaurant employees.

An alarming order

One woman walked into a McDonald's restaurant in California and asked employees to call 911. She gave them her license plate number and asked for help hiding.

There was only one problem: she was not alone.

According to the Sheriff's report, after using the bathroom and trying to order at the counter, the man who was accompanying her "demanded" that she use the drive-thru instead.

As she pulled her car up to the booth, the distressed woman mouthed "help me" to the attendant.

Recognizing that the woman was in danger, the employees sprung into action.

"Our restaurant manager had our employees actually hold up the drive-thru line so that we were then able to stop that car from moving forward"

- Regina Camera, marketing manager of the Golden State Restaurant Group, to CNN

Deputies arrived at the scene minutes later to pull the car over. Inside, they found the "shaken" woman and 35-year-old Eduardo Valenzuela.

They discovered that he not only threatened the woman's life with a gun, but he had been violent with her in the past.

Valenzuela was arrested and the woman taken to safety.

A safe space

It turns out that McDonald's and its heroic employees are part of the National Safe Space Network, an outreach program for youth who need health and safety.

It trains members to recognize and help at-risk individuals who enter their stores. Many, like the woman at the drive-thru, are escaping abuse or are being trafficked.

The McDonald's team came through to protect her in a moment of duress.

"It’s an exciting thing to know that our team was so well trained and prepared for this moment"

- Regina Camera, McDonald's marketing manager, to NBC news

We should all be ready to help

"A victim is safe thanks to the McDonald's crew"

- San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office

We all get caught up in life's spin cycle.

Wake up. Go to work. Go home. Rinse. Repeat.

If you take the time to look around and you might notice someone suffering, like the woman at McDonald's. Someone that needs help but can't ask for it.

You have the power to impact their situation. It doesn't take specialized training, just eyes that are on the lookout.

You just might be someone's only hope.

4 Signs You've Found a Kindred Spirit, Not a Soulmate

Spirituality exists beyond words — to a dimension where language can only hint at deeper truths. Any words used to attempt to describe or explain it will always be poor translations because words often fall short when describing spiritual experiences. It's like trying to capture the ocean's vastness in a photograph. It might show its surface but there's no replacement for the direct experience of reality.

On Defining Spiritual Connections

Throughout history, people have tried to capture extraordinary experiences and spiritual connections through language. Terms like soulmates, twin flames, and kindred spirits attempt to describe these non-ordinary bonds. Yet these labels are merely signposts that point to something mysterious and won't fully capture it.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his parents Randi and Pat
Archive

Make no mistake about it: Patrick Mahomes is the face of the NFL. The Tyler, Texas native is the son of Pat Mahomes, a former Major League Baseball player, and Randi Martin.

He burst onto the scene in 2018 when he made history by throwing 50 touchdown passes and 5,000 yards in a single season — a record he shares with Peyton Manning. He followed up his initial success by leading the Kansas City Chiefs to an incredible victory at Super Bowl LIV. If that wasn’t enough, he carried the team through to yet another Super Bowl the very next year, though they ended up losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes has gone to two more Super Bowls since and he's won back-to-back titles (2023 and 2024).
