Condo Owners Bring Furloughed Cleaning Lady To Tears By Revealing They Got Her A Penthouse

Like so many of us, Rosa had a rough go during the coronavirus pandemic. After working at the same New York condo for 20 years, she was furloughed and had to move in with her sister.

But Rosa was beloved and treated like family by residents of the luxury condo, so they thought they'd help her get back on her feet.

A surprise gift from the residents

In a video posted to Reddit, a cleaning lady named Rosa is seen riding in the elevator while a man explains what's going on via colorful cards.

"Rosa is family to the tenants of this NYC luxury high-rise," reads the message on the screen. "Due to COVID, she was furloughed. However, she still came to work every single day with a giant smile on her face. This unit just finished a complete remodel. Rosa thinks she's here to clean it before a showing. But really, she's getting the keys. It's a four-bedroom, three-bathroom [apartment]. New hardwood floors, with two outdoor spaces, full chef's kitchen, 2500 square feet."

She had no clue she'd be gifted the condo

The video continues as a man in a suit shows Rosa around the apartment. She thinks she'll be cleaning it, not living in it, but can't help but remark at how beautiful it is.

At one point when seeing the kitchen, she says, "I hope they like to cook because this is the perfect kitchen."

The man in the suit proceeds to show her the many rooms and how much light they get. He then takes her onto the terrace, where Rosa remarks about how great it would be to have a telescope up there to look at the stars.

They gifted her a two-year lease

While back in the living room, the man in a suit tells Rosa how special she is to the building residents.

"I know a lot of people in this building are a big fan of you and they love you very much," he said. "I know it's been a tough year for you and your family and there's probably been a lot of financial hardships. I think you made a real impact on the people here in the building and they just want to give something back to you."

Then, the man informs her that the residents had gifted her a two-year lease to the penthous.

"Everything has been taken care of," he said.

As Rosa realizes she can move out of her sister's home and get back on their feet, she bursts into tears.

"This isn't real. This is too much. I can't believe this."

Helping someone who deserves it

In the comments, some such as displayname2648 were critical of a society that can allow someone like Rosa to fall through the cracks.

"Half way though, while crying it hit me like a ton of bricks... we have SO much wealth in this country... every human deserves a comfortable life. This video went from touching to gross real fast. Don't get me wrong, what they did was very nice.. but we've created a society that makes the common person fight over scraps just to pay rent, buy food, and make ends meet... while the top .01% has more money than they could spend in 1,000 lifetimes. Fuck that."

Yet the majority were moved by the gift and the impact it could have on Rosa's family.

"Haters gonna hate, imagine 2 years without having to play rent, she could put her kid through college with that kind of money saved up, if she has kids, clear up debts, invest that extra money, you'd be surprised how much money your money can make, if you just have some to spare. Some people just cant see the opportunities even it's starting at them right in their faces," wrote K45HISH.

The power of kindness

If the pandemic has shown us anything, it's how valuable those workers are who had to risk their health to go to work everyday — the nurses, grocery store clerks, cleaning ladies etc.

Our society has left many of those people hanging and put them at greater risk of infection, but the members of this condo building wouldn't let their beloved Rosa be one of those devastated by the pandemic. They pooled together to give her an extraordinary gift that proves yet again how powerful kindness can be.
