Father Doesn’t Show Up for Dad-Daughter Dance for the Second Time - His Son Has the Best Response

One kind-hearted brother stepped up when his dad didn't show for little sister's father-daughter dance.

Seven-year-old Skylar Hamerter had been looking forward to the father-daughter dance in Covington, Georgia, for months.

Even the year before, her dad hadn’t shown up to take her and she really wanted him to come this year.

“So this year she comes to me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance. I don’t want grandpa. I want my dad, I want everyone to know I have a dad,’” her mother, Trelysia Hamerter, told TODAY.

In the weeks and days leading up to the dance, Trelysia started to worry because her ex wasn’t picking up the phone. And the day before the event she broke down in tears.

“I felt so bad because there was nothing I could do because I’m not a male," she said.

Her son, 11-year-old Christian, saw her crying and asked what was wrong. When she told him, he had the sweetest solution.

If he doesn’t show, mom, I’d like to take Skylar to the dance…she deserves to know that a man can keep his word and that she’s really special.

They picked out a suit and tie for Christian to match Skylar's gold dress, just in case Skylar’s dad didn’t show up.

The next day, Trelysia's fears came true. Skylar’s dad didn’t arrive and thankfully, Christian was ready to go. They went to the dance and had a wonderful time, Trelysia told TODAY Parents.

She posted their story on Facebook because she was so proud of Christian and the post went viral.

Y’all I literally cried . . . Just know that I’m raising someone to be a GREAT HUSBAND one day.

Indeed Trelysia is nurturing a thoughtful young man. And Skylar will always know that her brother is there to save the day.
