5 Small Changes to Make to Your Life if You're Feeling Bored

Does every day feel like the same boring routine?

If you’re feeling bored, you need to get up and do something about it now. After all, this is your life. You’ve to make the most of it.

Grandiose suggestions aside (see Carnegie’s insightful advice below), sometimes what we’re supposed to be doing just isn’t all that exciting, so life wanes with enjoyment and we slowly lose motivation.

When that happens, we just need a little jolt.

Fortunately, there are small changes you can make to jumpstart your life and bring yourself back from the walking dead.

Are you bored with life? Then throw yourself into some work you believe in with all your heart, live for it, die for it, and you will find happiness that you had thought could never be yours.

Dale Carnegie

1. Drive to work (or home) on a different route

When life gets boring, one of the simplest and easiest things you can do is change up your daily routine. Think of something you do every day and start doing it a little differently, as that will always inject a little life into things.

For example, start using a different route to drive to and from work every day. Instead of driving home on autopilot like you’re used to, you’ll be forced to remain present and aware of what's going on around you, which can often spark ideas and the inspiration to do other things.

2. Begin a side project

Ever wanted to learn guitar? How about painting? Or kung fu?

This can also mean starting a business, learning how to write, or another valuable skill you can likely use in your professional life (or build into something of its own).

Starting a side project can be a super fun and easy way to fight the forces of boredom. The key is simply to find something that really interests you and, preferably, that you’ve never done before.

3. Start taking a cold shower in the morning

Hey, I didn’t say every one of these suggestions would be comfortable.

Have you ever taken a cold shower first thing in the morning? Yeah, you try to stay bored after jumping into the arctic. Jokes aside, taking a cold shower is a great way to throw some fresh life into your morning if you’ve been feeling unshakably bored.

4. Meet new peoplegirls-using-app-for-networking

One of the absolute best ways to rid yourself of boredom is through stimulating conversation.

When the mind becomes stimulated even through simple conversations with new people, it starts to work in overdrive, sifting through all of the sensory data memory and afterthoughts associated with the event or events.

There are countless ways you can meet new people, from going on a date to joining a book club or taking a class. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter how you do it -- just that you get yourself out there and enjoy yourself without expectations.

5. Reassess your direction in life

Okay, so we couldn’t help but touch on the serious side of this.

But truly, if you’re happy, you shouldn’t feel so bored. Sometimes stressed, anxious, or worried, sure, but never bored.

So take a few minutes– or hours– to question your current path. Nothing has to be done now (remember, small changes), just allow yourself to talk openly with yourself or another person about everything to see how you’re feeling.

Why do you think you feel bored? What do you think needs to change? Is there anything big that can be done right now at all? Questions like this can help you gain clarity and find your answer.
